The Terrace and Buccleuch Gardens are formally listed in the English Heritage Parks Register because of their historic heritage value for some years. Terrace Gardens, located close to Richmond town centre, was originally formed from three separate eighteenth century estates and was opened as a public park in 1887. Further information about the Garden's can be found on the links and downloads at the bottom of this page.
SWLEN is currently supporting a group of local residents in Richmond interested in forming a friends group for Terrace and Buccleuch Gardens, on Richmond Hill. The group is keen to see that after the extensive renovation and refurbishment of the Gardens that the on-going maintenance keeps the Gardens to the same high standard and the community is involved in decisions affecting the Gardens.
If you would like to be kept in the loop as things develop please email SWLEN.

A number of actions were decided at the meeting, these were:

- Colin will contact those people attending who had indicated they would like to participate in a Steering Group to take forward the wish to form a friends of group for Terrace and Buccleugh Gardens;
- A further meeting will be organised to convene these people (Wednesday 28th July 2010 7pm, venue tbc)
These actions are currently being undertaken and it will be proposed at the Steering Group meeting that updates on progress can be put on to this webpage as they happen. Subject to agreement of the Steering Group, further updates would including any future public meetings etc. If you would like to be kept abeast of developments via email please email SWLEN.
July 28th 2010 Onwards
A Steering Group has formed from local interested people, it is tasked with devising role descriptions the roles of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer as well as reviewing a constitution drawn up by a previous steering group to enable a friends group to form. It will also canvas interest in people taking on these officer roles and may also receive the nominations of interested people. This latter point is subject to discussion and acceptability with the Steering Group.
The current Steering Group will then present back to all interested parties at a public meeting the role descriptions they have devised, the constitution they have reviewed and amended if there has been a unanimous decision in doing so (otherwise the amendment will just be highlighted). The Steering Group may also run an election of the nominated people to the officer roles and thus the formation of the friends group.
