Food Grower / Environmental Worker

From April 2012 for two years, Local Youth, Local Food will deliver a comprehensive training and mentoring programme to 60 at risk young people aged 16-19, to include basic growing and cooking skills, health and environmental awareness, life-skills and transferable skills vital for employment.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting all of the food growing /environmental aspects of Local Youth, Local Food a project based at KCafe (a youth café run by Richmond Youth Partnership). The post holder will build on KCafe’s established and successful youth training programme to include an environmental/horticultural focus to help local young people into employment, specifically the growing eco-jobs market.

Working to support the local youth local food project this post will;

  • Work with at risk young people to develop growing spaces for RYP cafes.
  • Create a network of local food producers able to contribute produce to local youth local food
  • Advise and support in the development of local youth local food menus particularly in planning seasonality.

 You will be able to;

1. Support at risk young people in growing training programmes. 

2. Record learning and evaluate/improve programmes. 

3. Establish and maintain productive growing spaces. 

3. Work with a range of partners to enable productive network of food growers. 

4. Respond to the needs of the local youth local food project particularly in the imaginative use of locally sourced and grown sources for menus.

Activity Coordinator

The Environment Trust for Richmond upon Thames is recruiting a temporary coordinator for their programme of activities for adults with learning difficulties and other disabilities.

They can offer 18 hours work per month at £10/hour for a duration of 8 months. To coordinate their programme of sensory walks, supported environmental volunteering and rowing.

Continuation funding is being sought by the Trust.

The role’s responsibilities will include:

  • Planning individual activities: Visiting sites to check they are suitable. Making sure there is access and that we have agreement of the site manager if necessary.
  • Booking leaders for each activity, support staff and volunteers.
  • Promoting the activities.
  • Taking bookings and making sure you know the support  requirements and contact details of everyone on the activity
  • Improving and expanding their client database
     

To be considered for this post you will need to show experience of working in the voluntary sector with vulnerable people.  You will also need a willingness to work flexibly including some weekends.
